Letting go of the need to be perfect

It seeps into our consciousness slowly. Quietly. Inconspicuously.

It slowly marinates into many aspects of your life, gently shading our perspective and coloring our judgement.

Before you realize it, this obscure idea has somehow become an unobtainable standard.

The need to be perfect.

By whose measure?

Where did that thought first originate? How did it end up as my thought? Is it really my thought or is it pushed onto me from society? Popular culture? Tradition? School?

Hmmm. Well no one and nothing is perfect. Because even if it was perfect, we are imperfect and that alone would alter our judgement, right?

So can we allow ourselves to be imperfect?

Ahhhh but I didn’t say lazy. Isn’t it amazing how we correlate imperfect with “not trying”?

What are you “trying” to do with your life? Are you trying to be perfect?

Or are you trying to be happy?

It seems like both don’t really happen at the same time.

Or perhaps, we are happy and then what we have becomes perfect.

I can use that as a working definition for now.

I’m not saying we should lower our standards. I’m suggesting we get what we think about, what we focus on, and I’m choosing happiness over perfection.

So, here is my first chair and strip fitness workout video, available online.

Is it perfect? No.

Is it fun? Absolutely.

Will it bring you happiness? I hope so!
