What is Feminine Fitness and why should I be interested?

In the era of 90's Tae Bo and the hey day of wrestling, I grew up thinking I had to be masculine to be strong.
You might have this belief too.
Flash forward 20 years: I started this decade of my life with the mentality that I was only going to teach group fitness classes that I loved. That meant dropping almost everything I’d spent my 20s getting certified in: 5 Zumba formats, kettlebell, kickboxing, step…
My philosophy is that fitness should be fun. So I took some time to decide what’s fun for me: Sexy movements, a strong core, a workout that doesn’t feel like a workout.
Let’s clarify here: there are many flavors of sexy. I like classy-sexy, sensual-sexy. Not necessarily raunchy-sexy. There’s a time and a place for that, and it’s not always excluded.
So that left me with Pilates, belly dance and chair dance.
Quite a niche, don’t you think?
To help me be the best instructor for you, I’m studying right now to improve my understanding of the pelvic floor. Both belly dance and Pilates use the pelvic floor, and as women living deliciously in middle age, our pelvic floors can be pretty beat up.
Pregnancies, childbirth, abdominal surgeries, sexual trauma, even purity culture can all affect our pelvic floor health.
You might find yourself asking, What is involved in pelvic floor health? Our muscles can be tight, weak, they can be imbalanced on one side. Our posture might be throwing off our alignment. Adhesions from abdominal surgery might be pulling on the front of our core to cause discomfort. Even gut conditions that cause diarrhea can affect your pelvic floor function. Any type of sexual shame can affect our ability to connect with ourselves and may make orgasm difficult. So what’s a woman to do?
I designed Pilates for Better Sex with every woman in mind.
We start with a mind-body meditation to explore any trauma, identity confusion or shame in your root chakra. It’s safe to let go of the things holding you back.
Then we move into functional stretches for the muscles that support the pelvic floor. These are very basic but you will be surprised at how quickly they work when used in the proper timed sequence. I pulled these out of a training for pelvic pain. They are very effective for many pelvic health concerns.
Then comes the fun part: sensual dance and yoga flows, Pilates exercises and bonus moves.
We will also focus on a different kegel exercise every class, so make sure you give yourself this opportunity to give back to yourself. Make time for yourself the same way you would for others!
Classes start Monday 10/2 at Buffy’s Boutique in Downtown Winter Haven. Classes are 4:30-5:30p and are taught barefoot. Wear yoga or workout clothes. Really want to connect with yourself? Feel free to wear fishnets, body suits, etc. this is your time! I am your guide, but you are in control of your experience.
Due to the mature nature of this content, this class is limited to women ages 18+.

I am a nurse, health coach and Pilates instructor. These classes are intended as a fitness class for general wellness. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, please see your health care provider and consider asking for a referral to a pelvic floor physical therapist. I do and cannot give condition-specific instruction, diagnose or treat any condition.
